Real wedding: Scott and Kat

A lux wedding at a heritage grand hotel!

It was a misty October afternoon in Robertson with a few drops of rain beginning to land on the luscious front gardens of the Robertson Hotel.

As I arrived, it was still touch-and-go whether the planned garden ceremony could proceed. This is sometimes an eventuality that needs to be accounted for. Rarely do you see rainy weddings on instsgram, but its the reality for a lot of couples every week, alas, humanity has not yet learned to control the weather.

Thankfully, things looked to be improving as the cutoff time for the decision approached. There was still a slight mist hanging in the air but the larger raindrops hard curtailed. We made the decision to proceed with the garden ceremony as planned – with umbrellas at the ready in case things took a turn.

The Ceremony

What proceeded was simply divine. Despite the mist leaving the air a bit chilly, the ceremony was magical, as bride Kat made her way down the grand steps at the entrance of the Robertson hotel into the garden to join her new groom. Officiated by Cassandra Bowles, the vows were truly special, personal and clearly well-thought out.

The Canapes

The fun continued in the garden, as trays of Aperol spritz roamed around the grounds while Jack Rose performed for guests to accompany the elevated vibe. Scott and Kate took a stroll through the hedges with Bodhi for some couple portrait shots. The couple then returned triumphantly their grand entrance with a champagne tower, complete with an epic bottle-pop!

The Reception

As the sun began to set, we made our way to the dining room for the dinner course. Our MC Hayden led the speeches in the way that only a dear friend of the couple could. Kristine captured moments, while I provided the soundtrack. The drinks were flowing, and guests were beginning to sing along to some of the songs (Aerosmith – Don’t wanna miss a thing was a big hit.) At that point we knew it was getting time to be up on our feet and dancing, which leads us to…

The Party

We moved into the grand ballroom and adjacent bar, and kicked things off with the cake cutting and a thank you speech from our bride and groom. This followed into a graceful first dance, of which everyone joined in by the end.

After that – party time! Chandelier dimmed down, Music up, disco lights on! Some Personalised Sunglasses handed out ion the dance floor made for great party props, as the floor was heaving with disco, retro, pop and some 2000s pop-punk all night, with a sprinkle of some 90s-00s house classics, (think Bag Raiders, Groove armada etc.)

My idea to drop Lustra-Scotty Doesn’t know was well received, especially amongst the groomsmen, and it must be said that Scott was a great sport about it as well.

The party was Wild – a lot of wild moves, and some getting up on shoulders was not uncommon either! The dance floor was full until the very end of the night.

Scott and Kat – what a perfect example of how an elevated luxury wedding can still be a wild fun party.
