Why You Should Consider A Weekday Wedding (And Why You Shouldn’t.)
Once taboo, weekday weddings are increasingly becoming the norm in the post-covid era that we live in.
It’s worth considering a Monday to Thursday when trying to narrow down your date for the I do’s. Let’s dive in with some things to consider for both sides of the argument.
Â
The Good
The main advantage is that weekday weddings can offer discounts from certain vendors, particularly wedding venues for taking advantage of the off-peak times, so it’s a great way to save a bit of cash. I don’t need to remind you that weddings can get very expensive so any savings can go a long way towards something else.
Â
Aside from discounts, vendor availability is generally greater during weekdays, so you’ll have a better chance of locking in all your top preferred vendors for the same day, which can be tricky in itself.
Â
The Not So Good
The Cons are mainly that it’s more of an inconvenience for your guests, as most will have to try and arrange leave from their job for that day, and could mean missing school for school-age children.
Â
Brace yourself for the expectation of a few RSVPs sending their regrets. Giving as much notice as possible with your invites will increase your success rate and allow them to plan around it.
Â
Mid-week weddings also might have your guests leaving early if there’s school or work the next day also – I see it happen all the time. It’s hard to justify partying with the DJ until midnight when you have an 8am start tomorrow.
Â
There are ways around this, like having a brunch or afternoon wedding celebration that finishes around a normal school-night bed time.
Â
What To Do
Try and locate it in an area that’s not too far of a trek for the bulk of your guests. If they are needing to book accomodation for the night, that could mean 2 days of annual leave needed, which for some is just too much of an ask.
Â
If it is indeed more of a destination, do some research of the area and include some local hotel and cafe information to make it easier for guests to commit to the mid week. You may be able to strike a deal with a local hotel or motel who would also appreciate the extra mid-week patronage if you can bring them the additional guests for the night.
Â
You can also get creative with weekdays and aim for the day before a public holiday, or aim for school holidays in general if several guests are parents of school kids.
Â
To summarize, weekdays make it potentially easier and cheaper for you, and potentially less easy for your guests, but considering all their needs can help make it a pleasant experience for everyone.
