Real wedding: Cathy & Nick’s Intimate Celebration at San Martin Akuna Bay

Wedding Date: Saturday, 8 March 2025 Ceremony Venue: Eden Gardens, Macquarie Park (now closed) Reception Venue: San Martin Akuna Bay

When Cathy and Nick told me they were planning an intimate Sydney wedding with about 40 of their closest family and friends, I knew exactly what my mission was. As a professional Sydney Wedding DJ and MC, smaller guest lists present a fun, unique challenge: the goal is to create a high-energy party atmosphere without it ever feeling forced or awkward. And let me tell you, this crowd absolutely brought the energy!

Setting the Scene in Sydney’s National Park

This was a multi-location wedding, which meant flawlessly timing the pack-down after their beautiful outdoor ceremony at Eden Gardens in Macquarie Park, and driving over to the reception space to get completely set up before the first guests arrived.

The reception was held at San Martin Akuna Bay, and it was a truly elegant affair. Nestled right in the middle of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, the secluded location and stunning water views perfectly suited the exclusive, intimate vibe of the evening.

The Vibe & Formalities

Despite not being a massive 200-person wedding in a grand ballroom, Cathy and Nick’s guests were there to party. The tone for the night was set immediately during the bridal party entrances. Both the bridesmaids and groomsmen went all-out with a fully choreographed entrance dance that had the whole room cheering!

Later in the evening, the formalities hit the perfect note, with the Best Man delivering a hilarious speech that had everyone roaring with laughter.

Going the Extra Mile: Premium Audio & Seamless Setups

A big part of hiring a premium wedding DJ and MC is knowing that the technical, behind-the-scenes details are handled flawlessly. Cathy and Nick had arranged for their cousin, Ryan, to perform their first dance song live on acoustic guitar. I liaised with Ryan before the big moment to ensure he had the correct microphone setup, the right audio inputs for his guitar, and a proper backing track queued up so his performance sounded crystal clear.

The venue’s layout also required some creative problem-solving. Because the couple’s seating backdrop featured those beautiful water views, my DJ booth wasn’t directly adjacent to the dancefloor. It was crucial to map out the room so the speakers provided excellent, even sound coverage without blasting any seated guests directly in the ear—and most importantly, making sure no bulky speakers ruined the background of the photographer’s shots. It took a lot of extra signal lead and a healthy amount of gaffer tape, but the pristine audio and clean aesthetic were 100% worth it.

A Heaving Dancefloor

When it was time to dance, we leaned heavily into 2000s and 2010s party anthems. The dancefloor was absolutely heaving to Usher and Pitbull, and we sprinkled in some massive singalong classics like It’s Raining Men and all-time Bon Jovi hits.

An Expert DJ Tip for Intimate Weddings: This night was proof that you don’t need 150 people to have an unforgettable dancefloor. You just need a DJ who reads the room, great timing, and a crowd ready to celebrate!

Congratulations again to Cathy and Nick on an incredible Sydney wedding!
